West Ham top 3 Strikers

Looking back over the years we’ve had some prolific goal scorers,
Geoff Hurst
Martin Peters
Jimmy Greaves
David Cross
Clive Allen
Ian Wright
Jermaine Defoe
Bobby Zamora
Tony Cottee
Frank McAvennie
Andy Carroll
Etc:

Who do you rate as our top 3.

1) Hurst
2) Ian Wright
3) Tony Cottee

Zamora gets a honorable mention.

Sure I missed a few, who makes your top 3.

The old South Bank didn't look much different than on it's last days prior to demolition. Except for the segregation fence and no mans land bit

Distinct lack of knowledge of the club's history in that list.

McAvennie was like an android in Blade Runner - shone brightly, but briefly

I'm a bit surprised Paul Goddard wasn't on the original list massively underated.

1 Hurst
2 cottee
3 Robson
Mcavennie Watson Di canio are all very unfortunate not to make the top 3. Greavsie and Wrighty were past their best at ours so obviously ain't on the list.

Manuel you are really committed to fishing aren't you? It's impressive. If Joey Beauchamp had been as committed to football he'd have turned into Lionel Messi.

Not so sure that Ashton would have scored as many as Shearer but agree with the sentiment
He was the natural heir apparent and was certainly destined for greater things
Ferguson was known to be keeping a very close eye on him and a return to the NW was likely
A footballing tragedy that his career was cut so short, a top player

In my lifetime

1 = Cottee, McAvennie
3 = Dean Ashton

I firmly believe Ashton would have been a superstar and scored as many as Shearer (probably not for us) if he'd not got injured

Geoff Hurst

Are the 3 that have scored 6 (or more) in a single match

Re: West Ham top 3 Strikers
Yea I really liked Bellamy, but his spell with us was hindered by injuries.

I can't really think of 3 and do it justice, the old argument about comparing era's must come into it and if looking at numbers only shouldn't Vic Watson be number one? Was Di Canio even a striker? Ashton scored 15 goals in 46 games for us, and got ONE England cap, so he gets nowhere near the top 3. Although of course he was better than Shearer, lol.

If I think about a West Ham striker over the last few decades who scored plenty and who I really loved, it always comes back to Tony Cottee.

Wouldn't put him in a top 3 but was gutted when Craig Bellamy left. Thought we was a perfect fit for eachother, was playing some of the best football of his career.

Re: West Ham top 3 Strikers
My era.

Cottee is 6th highest English league goalscorer of all time behind only Rush and Shearer of the modern era. Only saw him in his 2nd spell for us but still a superb natural goalscorer.

Di Canio, brilliant talismanic footballer who scored all sorts of goals, maybe not as many goals over his career as his ability justified.

Hartson, terrific centre forward for us, could handle himself, good in the air but also technically a very good player who could finish. .

The top 3 strikers we have ever had

Are

1. Jimmy Greaves
2. Ian Wright
3. Davor Suker

Shame we didn’t have them when they were at their peak.
